The Luzhin Defence reissued

Monday, February 11th, 2008

In a career spanning over 20 years Alexandre Desplat has now placed himself at the forefront of screen composers with a recent list of successes that include The Golden Compass, Syriana, Casanova, Girl With A Pearl Earring and Birth (available on Silva Screen Records). His Oscar nomination for The Queen has been the crowning moment for his career thus far. After a long apprenticeship in his native country of France with a succession of charming scores, his international breakthrough came with The Luzhin Defence in 2000. The sensuous, romantic music forms the backdrop for the tale of a love affair in 1920s Italy between a chess grand-master and a Russian socialite. Silva Screen will be re-issuing this beautiful soundtrack on April 28th which was descibed by Variety as “”The fine score by Alexandre Desplat gently cradles the story to a moving close”.
