Heading Up The Masters

Silva Screen’s vast and easily clearable catalogue of film and TV themes continues to grow, with intensive recording sessions having taken place in the past few weeks in London, Prague and the US. Details of these new titles will be announced soon but recently completed themes include Maybe Tomorrow (The Littlest Hobo), Wonder Woman, Miss Marple Theme (Margaret Rutherford) and The Love Boat.

Afghan Star Set To Shine

The soundtrack to the award winning documentary Afghan Star is set for release on November 16th. The inspiring story of singers in a war ravaged land taking part in an X Factor style contest has received rave reviews. The release includes music from the show alongside traditional Afghan songs.

Not Only But Also

Richard Strauss wrote Also Sprach Zarathustra, 113 years ago but it remains one of the most used works across film and television. Forever associated with the moon landings thanks to its subtle use in 2001: A Space Odyssey, it is one of the most popular titles for usage from our library. It will launch once again  this autumn as part of a Sky Box Office campaign in generic promo spots.

Silva Gets Carter

Roy Budd was one of the great British film composers of his era, scoring many cult movies from  the 1970s. He sadly died at the age of just 46 in 1993. Silva Screen is delighted to announce that we have secured the rights to his catalogue, which will be released  in 2010 and include Get Carter, Fear Is The Key, Kidnapped and The Wild Geese. All will be presented in new packaging with updated liner notes and the company will be actively promoting tracks for synch usage alongside ringtones and an extensive digital presence

Soundtrack From Romcoms Past

Box office smash Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner is launched on DVD this Monday (Sep 28th) followed by our soundtrack release on Nov 9th. Rolfe Kent’s symphonic score follows  plenty of dramatic action in the hit romcom and was recorded at Lucas Ranch with members of The San Francisco Opera and Symphony orchestras.


Hanging With Jeunet

Jean-Pierre Jeunet is one of the most creative directors working in film today with an illustrious catalogue of releases that include Amelie and A Very Long Engagement. His latest, Micmacs, which opens in the UK on January 8th is a loving homage to Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs and the great silent comedian, Buster Keaton. Alongside a score by Raphael Beau, Jeunet employs vintage soundtrack material from the legendary Max Steiner. The Silva Screen recording of his music for the 1959 film The Hanging Tree is featured in this production.

Moore Hitchcock

Twenty years on from Roger & Me, the documentary that revived the genre on the big screen, Michael Moore returns to the subject again with Capitalism: A Love Story. This time around he ventures forth to discover how the American dream is turning to hell. The film opens in the US on October 2nd but no UK release date yet. Silva Screen’s immaculate recording of Prelude from Vertigo features in the film.

Stand by for more Gerry Anderson action shortly. The long awaited Space: 1999 Year 2 is set for launch on October 26th. The seventh release in our series in conjuction with Fanderson brings Derek Wadsworth’s jazzy synth themes to CD and will be a pure delight for the many fans of the series. The booklet includes notes from Derek who sadly died last year after a long career as a composer, session musician and ace trombonist. Full track details below.

It’s great news that Ridley Scott will be producing a long awaited feature film of the series for release in 2010 with Liam Neeson starring as Hannibal Smith. Fingers crossed they stick with the classic theme!

Insider Knowledge – Marvin Up For An Award

Silva Screen is delighted to add Marvin Hamlisch to our catalogue of releases from the very best film composers in the business. He won an incredible three Oscars in a single night in 1974 for the scores to The Way We Were (plus the timeless theme song) and The Sting. Other successes include A Chorus Line, The Spy Who Loved Me and Ordinary People. Marvin’s soundtrack for the new Steven Soderbergh film The Informant! has already been hailed by Playboy as “uber-cool” and the great news is that he will be honoured at the 36th Ghent International Film Festival on October 17th as the recipient of the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award
