El Cid – Finest Of All Film Scores?
One of the largest projects ever undertaken to re-create a film score will be available from November 2nd. El Cid was released by Tadlow Music last year as a three disc set and was an enormous critical hit with film score enthusiasts worldwide. Producer James Fitzpatrick’s massive project will now be available in a two disc format from Silva Screen who will market the project worldwide.
No expense was spared as 91 musicians and a large choir recreated the world premiere, complete 140 minute score, including themes omitted from the film. The CD booklet contains a note of introduction from director Martin Scorsese in which he defines this outstanding score thus, “Rózsa himself thought that El Cid was one of his finest scores. I would put it more generally: it’s one of THE finest film scores”
The extensive liner notes from the project will be available from the website to download in pdf format for purchasers.
