Mcdonald’s have launched this week their Great Tastes Of America campaign with music from the Silva Screen library,  an essential element for their TV campaign. Jerome Moross’ theme for The Big Country is the archetypal piece of Western music and is a perfect fit for the ad.

Brothers” cider launch their summer ad campaign on May 14th to the thrilling guitar sound of Misirlou, the popular Greek song that was reinvented by surf  guitarist Dick Dale in 1962. The version used in the ad is from the Silva Screen library and features on the forthcoming release 100 Greatest Film Themes Take 2, for its use in Pulp Fiction. Nominations Riding High

Congratulations to composer Adrian Johnston who has been nominated for Best Television Music at two award ceremonies in May. His score for Red Riding1974 is up for an Ivor Novello Award on May 20th and then for a BAFTA Television Craft Award on May 23rd.

Repo For Release

The soundtrack to Repo Men will be released on May 31st. The sci-fi thriller starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker has a distinctly crafted collection of tracks by director Miguel Sapochnik which reflect the plot and characters perfectly. It includes cuts from a wide spectrum of music from Rosemary Clooney to Beck plus an excerpt from Marco Beltrami’s thunderous score.

Doctorin’ The Albert

This year’s Doctor Who Prom takes place on July 24th and 25th at the Royal Albert Hall, the first being being broadcast live on Radio 3. The new Doctor, Matt Smith and his companion Karen Gillan (Amy) will host an intergalactic musical odyssey which will feature Murray Gold’s music from the series.

It’s A Wonderful Soundtrack

Gurinder (Bend It Like Beckham) Chadha’s latest film, It’s A Wonderful Afterlife, is released in UK cinemas this week. A black comedy about a matchmaking mother and a disappointed daughter, it features a music mix of contemporary Asian sounds and score. Silva Screen’s soundtrack arrives next month and includes a unique version of the A-Team theme and a desi slant on the Bee Gees’ hit Staying Alive.

Dear John I’m Number One

Dear John has matched its US cinema success by topping the film chart in the UK. It grossed just under £2m to outmuscle Clash Of The Titans which was shaping up for a third week at number one. Two songs from the film soundtrack are also climbing the singles chart, Joshua Radin & Schuyler Fisk’s Paperweight and Amanda Seyfried’s Little House.

Morricone With No Barriers

Silva Screen will release Ennio Morricone’s lavish score for Baaria on May 31st. Continuing his long-term relationship with director Giuseppe (Cinema Paradiso) Tornatore, the film is an epic tale of life in a Sicilian village over three-quarters of a century. The soundtrack is full of the magical elements associated with the man who is regarded as one of the greatest score writers in film music history.

Dear John, Will Be Home April 19th

The UK premiere of the film Dear John took place at the Odeon High Street Kensington last night with the two lead stars, Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried in attendance. Based on the best seller by Nicholas (The Notebook) Sparks it’s a classic contemporary romantic film about a love affair between a soldier and a student. The soundtrack of distinctive and endearing emotional songs has been a major hit in the USA and the film knocked Avatar off the top of the box-office chart. Silva Screen release the soundtrack on April 19th following the film’s release on April 14th

The Dream’s On Me For Easter Sunday

Arena – Johnny Mercer – The Dream’s On Me is set for transmission on BBC Four at 9PM on Easter Sunday, April 4th. Executive produced by Clint Eastwood, the original documentary transmitted in the US last year and will be extended here with extra interview footage. Arena executive producer Anthony Wall will appear on Robert Elms on  BBC London Live 94.9FM to discuss the film from midday on Friday April 2nd.
