Silva Screen will be represented at the opening and closing ceremonies of the XXII Winter Olympics in Sochi from Feb 7th to Feb 24th. Our recordings of film themes from Russian composer Dimitri Tiomkin have been licensed for use at the opening and closing ceremonies. The Red Army Choir, who are released in the UK on Silva Classics will also be performing.

The Silva Screen release has had great reviews and it’s a remarkable achievement for a composer with only his third full film score. Gravity has a total of 11 nominations and the awards will be presented at The Royal Opera House on February 16th.
Butlin’s new animated ‘sparkle’ TV ad features Silva Screen’s recording of Percy Faith’s haunting arrangement of ”Theme For A Summer Place” composed by Max Steiner for the film, “A Summer Place” released in 1959. This evocative instrumental piece was a record-breaking nine week number one in the US in 1960 and made number two on the UK charts.
Silva Screen is sad to hear of the death of the accomplished Polish composer Wojciech Kilar at the age of 81. We were honoured to release his superb soundtrack to Roman Polanski’s film The Ninth Gate in 1999 and the stature of his composing is underlined by the fact that the title is still a consistent seller in our catalogue.
