To mark this day of love, Danny & the Champions of the World have released their latest album, Hearts & Arrows on vinyl, through Diverse Records.

And The BAFTA Winner Is…

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Skin I Live In, whose soundtracks have been released by Silva Screen, have both scored well at the BAFTA’s. The former picked up Outstanding British Film and Adapted Screenplay whilst the latter claimed Film Not In The English Language.

The International Film Music Critics Association Eighth Annual Awards will be announced on February 23rd. Alberto Iglesias is in the frame for Film Composer Of The Year (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Skin I Live In). Other Silva releases receive nominations in the Best Original Score For A Television Series category. They are Murray Gold for Doctor Who and David Arnold and Michael Price for Sherlock.

John Williams Anniversary Box Set

It was John Williams’ birthday on the 8^th February and to celebrate, Silva Screen Records have released the definitive collection of his music, The Music of John Williams:The Definitive Collection

“Williams is indisputably the world’s best-known movie composer, creating cinema’s most memorable themes, imaginative scoring and telling collaborations”- Empire Online

After moving from East Coast to West Coast in 1948 with his family, Williams’ then attended UCLA followed by the Los Angeles City College. From where he had the opportunity to study privately with the legendary MGM Studios film composer, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

Williams then returned to the East Coast to attend the Julliard School of Music where he was again fortunate enough to study under the famed Russian pianist, Rosina Lhévinne.

During his career he has also worked with such acclaimed composers as; Bernard Herrmann, Alfred Newman and Franz Waxman.

Williams has also composed music and been a music director for more than one hundred films. Some of which are: The Indiana Jones Trilogy, The Star Wars Trilogy The Accidental Tourist, Empire of the Sun, The Witches of Eastwick, E.T.-The Extra-Terrestrial, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws, Goodbye, Mr. Chips Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Minority Report, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Saving Private Ryan, Sleepers, Nixon, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, JFK, Presumed Innocent and Born on the Fourth of July.

John Williams is one of the world’s most well-known composers and a renowned conductor, who at the grand age of 80 is still going strong today. His astounding accumulation of awards remains unrivalled, including 47 Oscar nominations (five wins), surpassed only by Walt Disney. Add to that four Golden Globes, seven BAFTAS and twenty-one Grammys and you have a truly stellar career.

Susan Hill’s chilling Gothic ghost story, set in Victorian times, has been lifting the hairs on the back of theatre-goers necks for over twenty years and it is appropriate that the English horror institution that is Hammer Film Productions should bring this classic tale to the big screen. The British cast includes noteably Daniel Radcliffe as the central character, young lawyer Arthur Kipps, and Ciaran Hinds (Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy) as his local ally Sam Daily. The score is by Marco Beltrami,American master of the horror/thriller genre, whose past work includes the Scream franchise, Resident Evil, i-Robot, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and Repo Men. The Woman In Black score is due for release on the 12th of March on Silva Screen Records.

Danny & The Champs… On The Street

After sucessful dates in France and Spain, Danny & The Champs are back on the road putting the Soul In The City. Kicking off in Oxford on 10th Feburary, The Champs will play some of the greatest pubs throughout the UK. They will be supported by Billy Vincent – the pioneers of ‘Dirty Folk’.
