It was John Williams’ birthday on the 8th February and to celebrate, Silva Screen Records have released the definitive collection of his music, The Music of John Williams:The Definitive Collection

After moving from East Coast to West Coast in 1948 with his family, Williams’ then attended UCLA followed by the Los Angeles City College. From where he had the opportunity to study privately with the legendary MGM Studios film composer, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Williams then returned to the East Coast to attend the Julliard School of Music where he was again fortunate enough to study under the famed Russian pianist, Rosina Lhévinne.
During his career he has also worked with such acclaimed composers as; Bernard Herrmann, Alfred Newman and Franz Waxman.
Williams has also composed music and been a music director for more than one hundred films. Some of which are: The Indiana Jones Trilogy, The Star Wars Trilogy The Accidental Tourist, Empire of the Sun, The Witches of Eastwick, E.T.-The Extra-Terrestrial, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws, Goodbye, Mr. Chips Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Minority Report, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Saving Private Ryan, Sleepers, Nixon, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, JFK, Presumed Innocent and Born on the Fourth of July.
John Williams is one of the world’s most well-known composers and a renowned conductor, who at the grand age of 80 is still going strong today. His astounding accumulation of awards remains unrivalled, including 47 Oscar nominations (five wins), surpassed only by Walt Disney. Add to that four Golden Globes, seven BAFTAS and twenty-one Grammys and you have a truly stellar career.
