Four rival families – leopards, hyena, wild dogs and lions – all fight to claim a remote Zambian paradise as their home. Who will succeed in ruling this precious kingdom?
KINGDOM is an epic six-part series narrated by Sir David Attenborough from the BAFTA award-winning BBC Studios Natural History Unit. Across six episodes in one of the most ambitious wildlife series ever made, KINGDOM follows four rival animal families over five years, telling their stories as they compete for survival and dominance in one of the most spectacular places on Earth.
This is the longest the BBC Studios Natural History Unit has been embedded in one location, tracking the lives of individual animals, for a single series. Spending around 1400 days in the field, working alongside local crews and experts, KINGDOM not only documents the story of some of Africa’s most charismatic, but also shines a light on the efforts to protect them from poaching by leading conservationists.
Acclaimed composer Segun Akinola has composed the original score for the BBC Studios Natural History Unit’s latest series, bringing a rich, emotionally resonant soundscape to the breathtaking visuals of the natural world.
Akinola, known for his bold, cinematic compositions, describes working on KINGDOM as an exciting career highlight.
“Working with the world-class BBC Studios Natural History Unit on Kingdom has been a real joy,” Akinola said. “What made it extra special was going to record singers and musicians in Zambia, then combining their efforts with the talents of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and other fantastic musicians. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the results!”
Blending traditional Zambian musical elements with orchestral grandeur, Akinola’s score reflects the beauty, drama, and cultural richness of the series. His work captures not only the majesty of nature but also the deep connection between the landscape and the animal families who call it home.
