In the early seventies, the equipment and techniques the composers used were at the cutting edge of music technology. As a result this album was an opportunity for them to create music free from the constraints and demands of a television production. As well as featuring both the EMS VCS 3 and EMS Synthi 100 synthesisers, the album was their first to be produced in stereo.
“The Radiophonic Workshop is an extraordinarily varied compilation that shows the composers stretching their creative legs beyond the usual confines, and one that has perhaps also been quietly influential down the years.” Mark Ayres
