Bigger and bolder, Torchwood returns to our screens on Thursday 14th of July on BBC1 at 9pm, with the US airing preceeding it by a week due to a co-production with one of the USA’s premuim networks, Starz. Torchwood: Miracle Day sees the return of Captain Jack, the immortal head of the now disbanded Torchwood Institute, return to rescue an Earth in crisis, due to the seemingly miraculous gift of universal immortality. On one day, everyone becomes immortal at the same time, including arch-criminal Oswald Danes, just as he is given his lethal injection. Although no one can die, they can be injured, dismembered even decapitated and live on in terrible pain, plus the World’s resources become increasingly stretched. The plot has all the elements of classic sci-fi, and the action packed tempo and compelling characters are only enhanced by an injection of American style big-budget wow factor. Musically, you can count on more of the same , as Murray Gold takes back the reins from Ben Foster for this series, with more high-octane, fast-moving cues that drive the action. The highly successful first two soundtrack CDs, Torchwood (Foster/Gold) and Torchwood: Children of the Earth (Foster), are available here.
